The Best Backyard in Washington State

Fully guided waterfowl hunts and fishing trips in a sportsman’s paradise.

Private Hunting Leases

As of 2021, Eastern Washington Guides leases over 20,000 acres of agricultural land, and cattle farms smack in the middle of the Pacific Flyway, giving our clients access to over 200,000 ducks & geese every year. Most of our agricultural land is corn, some wheat, and plenty of ponds.

Aaron continually looks to improve our clients' access to the best waterfowl hunting land in Eastern Washington State. In addition to year-round scouting, Aaron and his guides assess the productivity of all waterfowl leases. On average, we'll pick up two to three properties each year, possibly dropping one.

As the season progresses, the number of public land duck hunts dwindle, whereas our goose hunts are almost exclusively private, so the quality of our private leases matter. Our private leases afford us opportunities to sink our custom-built pit blinds or use layouts on a fence line.

Our exclusive desert mule deer hunt is made possible through the vast private leases we hold and the scouting our guides do nearly every day of the year. To be sure, we know where the ducks and geese are, and we can put you on monster mule deer too.

Public Hunting & Fishing Grounds

When our scouting indicates that our clients shooting opportunities will improve on public land, we'll look to take advantage of birds on Potholes Reservoir and Moses Lake. We also take advantage of the WDFW Private Land Access Program totaling nearly one million acres throughout Washington State whenever needed.

Potholes Reservoir

One of our favorite spots is the Potholes Reservoir, a multi-species warm water lake in Central Washington, 16 miles SW of Moses Lake and part of the Columbia Basin Project. Eastern Washington Guides conducts hunting, fishing, and bowfishing guided client trips on Potholes nearly all year.

The habitat is a fantastic oasis for fish like perch, crappie, bluegill, walleye, carp, and bass, but it also provides duck and geese a primary water and wintering area. The Potholes Reservoir name stems from the collection of mini-lakes, typically 30-70 yards wide and 10–30 feet deep. These mini-lakes are known as "potholes" created through both natural and man-made processes.

Moses Lake

Moses Lake is a lake in Moses Lake, Washington. In addition to Eastern Washington Guides Worldwide Headquarters being on Moses Lake, it's one of our primary public land fishing & waterfowl hunting resources.

The lake and reservoir are part of the Columbia River basin project, with Crab Creek being part of the tributary of the Columbia River. Moses Lake has several horns (Parker, Lewis, and Pelican). We also hunt Moses Lake but to be honest, we don't need to do that frequently with all of our private leases, but having it as such a product resource is fantastic.

Fishing-Only Areas

When we're not hunting, we're fishing. Eastern Washington State gives us a healthy collection of waterways in our backyard to fish. The best bass fishing in Washington State is on the east side of the mountains. In addition to bass, we get our clients hooked on fatty steelhead, walleye, and giant sturgeon. For our bowfishing clients we target Carp in the Potholes Reservoir. Our guided fishing trips for spring chinook salmon begin in the spring, extending into the summer steelhead run starting in June.

Cowlitz River

Eastern Washington Guides provides guided steelhead and salmon fishing in season, according to WDFW. The Cowlitz itself is a fantastic tributary of the Columbia River.

Fishing within a picture lens of Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, and Mt St. Helens Cowlitz is one of the fisheries in a category by itself. The steelhead fishing is as good as the picturesque surroundings, exceptionally strong a few months of the year.

Satsop River

Our guided steelhead and salmon fishing trips on the Satsop River typically are lights out. When we venture into Chehalis it's because the steelhead are slammin' in the Satsop or a small group wants to book a trip nearby an existing vacation. If you're looking for a custom trip, indicate as much during your booking process.

The Satsop River is a tributary of the Chehalis River. Located near the southern end of the Olympic Peninsula, the Satsop river travels South near the town of Elma, WA, where it joins the Chehalis River and passes by the town of Montesano before emptying into the Pacific Ocean.

Client with booked fishing trips on the Satsop can get themselves ready for miles of flat river and stream-side views of Hallmark-looking farms to prepare for fighting multiple steelhead runs and hookups. The Satsop still offers ample opportunity for all species from drift or jet boats using multiple techniques, including casting spinners towards brush piles, floating eggs, plugs, or twitching jigs. Catching salmon and steelhead in the Satsop is not a problem!

Columbia River

The Columbia River provides outstanding steelhead and salmon fishing, with our giant sturgeon, salmon, and steelhead starting in February through the summer steelhead run. In addition to the Columbia River being the historic stopping point for Lewis and Clark, home the largest run of salmon in the Pacific Northwest, and very much part of the backbone of Eastern Washington Guides... it's also our backyard - our playground!

Take one of our guided trips targeting King Chinook salmon in the late summer & fall (August, September) and spring (March, April).

ORV + Fishing Trips

While Eastern Washington Guides do not provide ORV rentals, we do have families with varied interests. The north end of the Potholes Reservoir has sand dunes and incredible fishing. You might consider getting up early with a guided fishing trip with us before joining the family for a fun ORV afternoon in the sand dunes. Potholes is an excellent fishery in the spring; fishing or bowfishing is equally strong as the waterfowl mecca in the fall. As the lake drops during the year fish and ducks migrate to the main lake body.
